FAQs

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a co-creative process that works with universal life force energy to balance the subtle energies within our bodies, supporting psycho-social and emotional wellbeing.

What does a Reiki session feel like?
Everybody is unique, so everyone will have a different experience and may notice different bodily sensations during their session. Common sensations might include changes in body temperature, tingling, seeing lights and colors, relaxation, the urge to cry, and more — or nothing at all!

How does an in-person Reiki session work?
Reiki, as preserved by Japanese culture, is based on the belief in life force energy existing within and around us. Within our bodies, this life force energy flows through a series of channels known as meridians.
During an in-person Reiki session, I (the practitioner) am attuned and trained to serve as a vessel for this healing energy, co-creating the experience with you (the receiver). Using a combination of hands-on and hovering hand positions, the universal life force energy is gently transferred to support balance and psycho-social and emotional wellbeing.

How should I prepare for a Reiki session?
Please gauge your caffeine intake accordingly, and refrain from drinking alcohol or eating hard-to-digest foods the day before your session. Creating a clear and receptive state in the body allows the life force energy to flow with greater ease.
It is important to keep your highest aligned Self in mind during this time. If there are habits you are looking to shift, cutting back the day before your session can support a smoother transition. Some people also choose to reduce or temporarily remove meat from their diet before their Reiki session. If this resonates with you, feel free to do so.
Regarding cannabis and other plant medicines: I approach their use with neutrality and respect. I invite you to check in honestly with your body. Notice whether the medicine you are choosing feels supportive or whether it may be creating interference. There are times when the body may genuinely need assistance, and there are times when a clear vessel allows clarity to flow more freely. Trust your discernment and listen well.

What should I expect post Reiki session?
Post-Reiki session, you may experience both short-term and long-term shifts.
Short-term changes can include a deep sense of calmness, a decluttered mind, restful sleep, heightened sensitivity, and more. You may also notice subtle emotional releases or simply feel lighter and more at ease.
Long-term changes may unfold gradually. These can include shedding what no longer serves you, such as outdated relationships and spaces, increased clarity and motivation, feeling more grounded, and alignment with greater opportunities and new relationships.
Each experience is unique, and integration continues beyond the session as your system recalibrates and rebalances.

Can Reiki support the healing of a medical condition?
Yes — Reiki can assist in supporting the body’s natural healing processes and can complement medical care by reducing stress and promoting psycho-social and emotional wellbeing.
However, Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment and does not take the place of professional medical care. If you are currently under the care of a physician or taking prescribed medication, please continue to follow your provider’s guidance and take your medication as directed.

Is Reiki an exchange of personal energy, and how does intention influence the session, especially during pregnancy?
I love this question! Reiki is not the transfer of my personal energy to you. As a practitioner, keep in mind that I am attuned to serve as a vessel for universal life force energy — not as the source of it. The energy does not come from me, nor do I take energy from you.
Intention, however, is real. The quality of presence and intention held within a session matters. Reiki is a co-creative process grounded in respect, sovereignty, and alignment with your truest Self. Nothing is imposed, siphoned, or overridden.
During pregnancy especially, the work remains gentle and supportive. The energy flows where it is welcomed and needed, always honoring your body’s innate intelligence and the sovereignty of both you and your child.
